The Revolving Door Revolves In HSBC's Favour

Lucky for HSBC, the go to bank for tax advice, that it has Dave Hartnett onboard as honesty advisor.

Tax does have to be taxing.

  2. Yet another example of the gamekeeper turned poacher. Don't ever try to tell me that HMRC has any sort of morals, courtesy, respect, or credibility.

    1. He has pissed all over the integrity of the hard working and put-upon front line staff of HMRC. They will all be tarred with the same brush by the 'man in the pub'.

      He's a disgrace.

  5. HMRC's defence is that by making 'sweetheart deals' and that is what they effectively are, with those miscreants that realised that the game was up and had to pay up, was that it would save the tax payer money by quietly making these deals rather than pursuing them through the courts and legal action that could have resulted in a custodial sentence. What I want to know is if the tax authorities like France and other affected countries being cheated out of tax revenues had the balls to pursue these individuals in the courts and look to bring down the full force of the law on them. This culture of giving these people the soft option has got to stop, it just demeans the seriousness of the crimes. Prosecutions should and must be brought, and as for the silence from the former HSBC boss and now finance minister speaks volumes of what he knew. He should be stripped of his title and sacked from his ministerial position, he is as much a crook as Fred the Shred. And Homer well we all have our opinions of her.

    1. The linked article has an error, Hartnett was not CEO of HMRC. As per Wikipedia:

"When Paul Gray resigned as Chairman following the loss of the Child Benefit database, Hartnett took over the post in an acting capacity. After permanent replacements were appointed, Mike Clasper as non-executive Chairman and Lesley Strathie as Chief Executive, Hartnett was appointed to a new post of Second Permanent Secretary for Tax, with responsibility for tax professionalism"
