HMRC have slapped HM Courts and Tribunals Service with a £12.5m tax bill.
The department was hit with the bill by HMRC in relation to incorrect assessments of workers’ employment status (IR35 rears its ugly head again!), according to its annual report for 2020/21.
In 2019, the Ministry of Justice was told to revisit employment status determinations made between April 2017 and April 2020.
The tax liabilities related to undisclosed number of workers who were previously concluded as operating outside of the off-payroll working rules by HMRC’s Check Employment Status for Tax (CEST) tool.
On the plus side, HMCTS won't end up paying the bill, the ultimate liability rests with us the taxpayers!
Tax does have to be taxing.

ReplyDeleteNothing to see here, move along everyone.
A better investment of taxpayers' money would be to investigate the corrupt and bullying HMRC staff and sack them or put them before the courts as appropriate.
ReplyDeleteThere's without a doubt a number of them, but a thorough investigation would lead to quite senior people - sadly, with a well-known cover-up culture, we all know it will never happen.
Or,alternatively, you could put them before the courts by presenting your evidence of criminality to the police.
ReplyDeleteBut I suppose that's a bit too much like making an effort. So much easier to come on here with your bizarre and tedious fantasies.
Is there really anything strange or unusual about bullying in HMRC? The Laura Whyte report, which was supposed to kibosh very serious allegations of bullying and associated misconduct that were swirling around at that time, had no choice but to admit there is a culture of bullying and mistreatment of HMRC staff. That was reported on widely in the press.
ReplyDeleteBizarre or an uncomfortable truth?
Paid HMRC troll or a lonely, wind-up merchant?
Tedious? Sure. I am sure those still employed at HMRC, the likes of MOSS, GORDON, BARKER, et al, who were instrumental in the cover-up and failed to follow procedures or take appropriate action against staff who had transgressed to the point of committing criminal offences would like it to go away. The trouble with sweeping things under the carpet is if you lift the carpet those issues are still there. Still unresolved.
I think this really should be cards on table time.
DeleteFor years now you have been coming on here accusing HMRC and some of it's staff of repeated criminal activity (see above). You also claim to have evidence to prove this criminality and to have sought legal advice.
And yet, AND YET, whenever anyone asks perfectly reasonable questions regarding what you have done,or intend to do, about the harm done against you (for which, let us remind ourselves, you claim to have hard evidence) you invariably go missing in action, only to return with further accusations on another thread.
Surely even somebody as obsessive as yourself can see that fatally damages the credibility of your allegations.
So, as I said cards on table time.
What action have you taken regarding the criminality?
Have you complained to the police?
What did they do?
Have you engaged a solicitor, and if so what have they done?
Have you taken HMRC to an ET and what was the result?
What are your future plans for advancing your grievances?
As you have evidence of criminality have you considered approaching your MP or the PCA if the police refuse to progress your complaint?
If you have done sweet FA then why?
Don't forget, it is you who has repeatedly claimed to have hard evidence of crimes committed by HMRC, so please don't try and blame other posters on here for nothing happening.
And don't get all precious when people ask reasonable questions about your apparent lack of interest in advancing your complaints. I know that if a government department had plotted to ruin the lives of myself and my family by criminal means I would have been much more proactive than you appear to have been.
Assuming that you do not go MIA yet again I look forward to your response.
Two weeks on and still no response from @10.56.
ReplyDeleteLooks like they've gone missing yet again.
What a shock!
