HMRC Screws Up Customs Declaration Service

An error in the UK’s post-Brexit IT border system disrupted companies bringing goods in from the European Union, raising costs, adding bureaucracy and snarling deliveries.

HMRC made a change to the government’s Customs Declaration Service -- which businesses use to generate forms for imports from the EU -- prevented some traders acquiring necessary paperwork on Tuesday.

T he change was introduced overnight on Tuesday. The problem: the new tariff code didn’t work. Trucks were held up at customs depots because their forms were being rejected. As one customs agent put it: The government had screwed up.

HMRC on Wednesday reversed the position, and now claims that the problem has been resolved.

    2. Yes, they're great at staff bullying, quite expert in fact.

    3. There's neither more or less bullying than in any large organisation.
Most complaints of so-called bullying are from snowflakes who throw their rattles out of the pram when they don't get their own way.

    4. Just to add some text re whether HMRC has a significant bullying issue, and how it compares to other similar sized organisations, I worked there for 20 years and received compensation for their bullying

    5. Your post adds no 'text' (or context) at all. You quote one case - have similar sized organisations zero cases?

    6. I feel it does add some context. My case caused such injury that HMRC offered a compensation settlement - and, no, it wasn't an isolated case. A quick internet search (try Google) reveals a history of staff abuse at HMRC, with MPs completely aware of the problems. But, please do feel free to brown nose the HMRC abusers.

    7. HMRC often pay money to troublemakers just to go away and shut up. A policy I disagree with as a gross waste of public money but it exists anyway. You should be grateful for the money you got.
