Left Hand Right Hand

Left Hand Right Hand

The FT reports that HMRC has apologised to business owners, after incorrectly issuing demands for immediate repayment of taxes that had been deferred under the government's "time to pay" scheme.

Baker Tilly spotted the error, after some of its clients received automated letters from HMRC threatening distraint.

HMRC admitted that several letters had been sent out in error, and that anyone affected should ignore the notices.

Mike Down, who runs the tax investigation group at Baker Tilly, said:

"I guess it was a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. But it was particularly frightening for the poor taxpayer when the letter came through."

Anyone else had this problem?

Tax does have to be taxing.

Of course you can also pay it upfront and then have to resort to written complaints and arguments to get the over payment back, twat.

  3. While I'm not as 'hard-line' as poster 1 I do agree some what with his sentiment. If a company agrees a time to pay the record is noted and they are informed that correspondance will still be issued given it is an automatic action. Plus the amount is still outstanding so a warning/reminder is not wholly unwarranted. Poster 2 - nice retort 'twat' lol rofl.

  4. an even better thought is that we all stop paying tax and the whole system is abolished. You keep what you earn and if you dont earn anything - tough - suffer, die.. dont care.
