HMRC Blocks Honours For Tax Avoiders

It would seem that HMRC is sticking its unwelcome nose into the honour system.

Tax avoiders face being shunned for honours such as knighthoods, as HMRC has been alerting the Cabinet Office to individuals involved in controversial tax schemes, with a memorandum of understanding obtained by the Times saying “poor tax behaviour is not consistent with the award of an honour”.

A document published on the Gov.uk website said the vetting process sees HMRC assign a low, medium or high risk rating to prospective nominees “to minimise the risk that prospective candidates have behaved in ways likely to bring the system into disrepute”.
The report said medium risk includes those whose tax affairs would be “likely to cause adverse comment”, such as “participating in one or more avoidance schemes”.

Now have I got this right, HMRC and the government are blocking honours for people who use legal tax avoidance schemes; yet happily dole out honours to the likes of Jimmy Savile, Fred Goodwin, Philip Green, HMRC's very own Lin Homer etc?

The rationale being that tax avoiders who are honoured would bring the system into disrepute, unlike Sir Jimmy Savile etc???

HMRC are having a larf surely???

Tax does have to be taxing.

  2. So, professional advisers looking to make even more money out of the clients they've dropped in the shit having already charged them for dropping them in the shit in the first place. I'll give it a miss, thanks.

  3. They should ban gongs for the HMRC managerial geniuses that's for sure. Tax Avoidance is Legal, Tax Evasion isn't. If I earned mega bucks I would made sure my tax bill was kept to a legal minimum.

As you rightly put, there is a lot of sub human filth that have received honours. I know a LOT more than I want to post here.

David Icke never received one last time I checked

  6. When HMRC have got their own house in order i.e. dealt with criminal misconduct and bullying that goes on in the filthy place, then we can consider whether they are suitable to be our moral judge. Dishonest disgusting nasty scum.

Didn't Linda Homer, the nasty useless incompetent who presided over a period of decline in staff behaviour and performance get made a Dame? Hypocritical c***s.

  7. Don't see the problem, myself. I guess we're talking the here and now rather than in the past..?

  8. HMRC should have no role in the honours system. They have no integrity and it is wrong on so many different levels. There's the toxic bullying culture. HMRC's general disdain for humanity. Their chronic poor performance. Failure to root out the criminals in the department.

As for HMRC's honesty, well, it can get no more serious than lying in legal proceedings, and their staff who've done that leave themselves liable to prosecution.

Then there's the persistent allegations of fiddling figures like in this article: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/07/hmrc-tax-avoidance-dispatches-greg-wise-channel-4

What about Senior Civil Servants using limited companies to collect their overgenerous taxpayer funded wages, presumably for the purpose of AVOIDING tax.

Keep these awful people well away from the honours system!!!

  9. Unsure as to what it takes to get the spotlight shone upon these crims, but there seem to be a myriad of allegations and reported facts illustrating the corruption and law breaking within HMRC.
Who can be trusted to undertake such a mammoth task though?
HMG would opt for a prolongued and open ended enquiry that sought an outcome whereby lessons would be learnt and the culture of blame and by default, responsibility, would be avoided.
The evidence to support an in-depth investigation is everywhere, within and without HMRC itself and many serving and ex.staff would willingly contribute hard copy and statements.
The rot runs deep and floats high, the volume of criticisms and allegations against HMRC has never been higher.
Any suggestions as to who and how this situation should be addressed?

  10. There's a stench emanating from the CORRUPT HMRC. Its only a matter of time before ONE of these criminals are prosecuted for past crimes inside HMRC, then the rest will follow...

Time for the GUILTY to experience the sleepless nights and poor health that whistle blowers have had to endure for too bloody long...

  11. People have lost trust in this lot. Mis-conduct is apparently rife. Only a full investigation by an outside, independent, body has any chance of restoring credibility to HMRC.

  12. My own experience of being left suicidal and severely unwell by HMRC's outright lawbreaking, bullying, discrimination, thuggery and their subsequent psychological 'games' leads to me to agree that they bring the Honours system into disrepute as much as vile scum like Jimmy Saville.

    1. Not to worry...the handing out of 40000 Microsoft Surface Pro Laptops ( @ £1k a pop) to us, the HMRC staff will solve all the problems...so we have been forced to say.
All they are is a glorified base unit....turned on in the morning...then closed up until home time...an incredible waste of money.

  15. Have any of the people on here complaining about hmrc's 'criminal' behaviour actually reported it to the police. If not then just shut up.
By the way I worked for hmrc from it's beginning in 2005 until my retirement in 2014 and, yes, a significant number of it's managers are useless over-promoted bastards but that is not the same as being a criminal.

    2. Dear Mr Wilson,
I made two of the comments regarding criminality. Hmrc do not give two hoots about staff, past and current, as evidenced by their conduct but your concerns very sweet.
I know of how incompetent their management are. I have evidence of misconduct and law breaking by hmrc, some of a criminal nature. Yes it has been reported th rough the appropriate avenues. All the best.

    3. If you have reported criminal activity to the appropriate criminal investigation authority then fair play. But as I am sure you are aware some of the people on here come across as what I believe hip young persons refer to as trolls. If you have been the victim of criminal activity then you have my genuine best wishes.

    4. It is sad to read so much of HMRC's well documented record of bullying and harassment which is becoming ever more pervasive and perverse, though rather than trying to 'shut people up' it may be a better use of energy to get educated about it. One of their trademark tools in their vast repertoire to bully the employee is to place them under a 'capability procedure' further undermining the employee's human worth and dignity. It is merely another nail in the coffin to force the employee out the door as a demonstration of their absolute power over the individual who may commit the heinous crime of 'Whistle-Blowing' or any other type of behaviour which, in the warped minds of HMRC, puts them into some type of disrepute (oh, the irony). HMRC operate on the basic principle of 'fear and retribution', thus singling out the dissenter and making them an example for others to heed. As long as you are a 'yes' man or woman, you maybe lucky to escape their wrath, but once you have crossed the demarcation line, they will persecute you to the bitter end. Your only advantage in this nasty demeaning process is to hold your nerve and fight them at every corner with any type of ammunition in your arsenal. My advice: Embarrass the employer with every source (protected) with the exception of the press. Leave the press until after you resign with the consult of a legal mind, and resign you must. You have to allow yourself the satisfaction of getting out on your terms while utilising the GP and Occupational Health to maximum advantage due to 'employer created' mental health issues. Your health is more important than a lousy job or an ungracious employer. There are other opportunities out there where you will be valued and treated both as an adult and a human being. You will be able to see over the horizon again! Best of luck to all who are currently suffering at HMRC's hands.
