  1. A tell tale sign to an apathetic public.

One would hope this would be in breach of the Equality Act 2010 - but I doubt it.

    HMRC does not practice equality.

Whether it is bullying staff or lone taxpayers.

Whether it is kissing arse of senior management.

Whether it is cosying up to big business like Vodafone, Google or Starbucks.

Whether it is moving all tax affairs on line and closing offices to the public (discriminating against older poorer taxpayers)

Whether it is a 2 tier approach to home working, fine for higher level management - but lower grade staff can't be trusted.

HMRC is NOT an organisation that is equal.

Why shouldn't MP's be treated the same as the public and be investigated and prosecuted if found to have criminally evaded taxes - and why would any suspicious returns have to be investigated by a special team?

  2. This line has been in existence for years in one form or another for all Civil Servants, MPs, Judges, Police etc. And for good reason - the potential for blackmail and other forms of coercion should sensitive details get into the public domain are mind-bending.

  3. Something of a non story. PD1 has been around for a very long time.

Main difference between dealing with it and the general run of the public HMRC experience?

It is more likely to be staffed by people who actually know what they are doing.....

If ever an organisation could be said to have lost its purpose, common or otherwise, then it is here and now with HMRC.

At the end of the day he is just an over-promoted, overweight bean counter. That will be swiftly forgotten when he walks out the door.

  6. Why the surprise ? The more serious issue is how big companies are allowed to get away with murder via client relationship managers and a government that uses top 4 accountants for consultancy and routinely rolls over on tax, penalties , interest charges etc -i was a tax inspector for 31 years before throwing in the towel . During this period i saw deals done with top 4 and their clients , £500k given back to a large corporate as a "goodwill gesture ", was threatened by a large US group that if i did not back off the CEO was a friend of Gordon Brown , saw a former Tory minister given back tax on non business items and was derided as a "loose canon " and not a "corporate person ", to be over ruled on every occasion by higher management who had little or no tax training -it was with a massive sense of relief that i left .I got on fine with taxpayers , it was my colleagues , who treated taxpayers with distain (one referring to scaffold workers as "toerags " that i couldnt stand .

    1. Great that a senior figure has been sacked.

Interesting that he had form for it and that 2 female Assistant Directors are under investigation for facilitating his misbehaviour.

I hope the investigation is successful and that they are also dismissed.

I also hope that this sends a clear message and that some light is shone on a few more nasty bastards that have flourished in HMRC for far too long!

    2. I name and shame Antony Moss, a G6 Assistant Director, for his role in covering up for a law breaking 'Senior Officer' (SO) female manager.

There are several others in HR and management also guilty.

I fear hundreds of other HMRC staff past & present will have similar stories to tell...

    2. Excellent work, Ken. Yourself and others keeping this cretinous, immoral and outright law-breaking (mis)organisation on it's toes is a great public service.

Nellthorp appears to be the type of vile creature roaming free inside HMRC for too long. What, if anything, did (Sir) Jon Thompson know of his behaviour?

HMRC need to be brought into line with robust investigation followed by criminal prosecutions. That must include HMRC bullies & other miscreants whether they are male or female.

Male victims of female bullies in HMRC are not afforded any protection and the HR people will help construct false narratives to cover it up - even including wholly false statements being made in legal proceedings in an effort by HMRC to pervert the course of justice.

Perhaps the Attorney General's Office need to have a good look at what's been going on inside HMRC over the last decade. Some management and HR personnel need to be prosecuted for the serious common law offence of Misconduct in Public Office in relation to the cover-ups.

With taxpayers now also realizing that the department can't be trusted, it's imperative that action is taken to restore a little trust & confidence.

    3. Ready and waiting, MP briefed, but a bit busy at the moment, although another MP has started the ball rolling - as per articles above.
A decade would be intersting but might require reference to earlier shenanigens and cover ups in HM Customs which were carried through to HMRC.
There is an incredible breadth of allegation and evidence awaiting the light of day.

    4. Last leaked report on here was an LB report from 2016 so think they are separate.

All the comments sections on here are full of complaints but most of time not relevant to topic of post. Perhaps a seperate post would be useful for people to come forward?

  11. As much as Nellthorp his Director David Richardson is to blame. He covered for him since 2010, quashing at least 7 complaints by staff I know of.

    2. Interesting that HMRC are alleged to have covered up for Nellthorp over many years but not a total surprise.
Meanwhile, when it comes to junior HMRC staff, they are sacked for taking too much sick leave as a result of a sexual assault: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/sex-attack-victim-sacked-hmrc-11876376

  12. There is always someone either covering up, turning a blind eye or "facilitating ".

    The organisation is shite.

  13. I would worry that all the reports and reviews are clouding the more important issues and that yet again...'...steps have been taken, we have learnt, HMRC is committed (ought to be!), and that measures have been put into place that will ensure...' yaddah, yaddah.

In the meantime, swept under the carpet will be any hope of a thorough criminal investigation into widespread criminal acts and conspiracies, and that would be criminal in itself!

  14. My partner worked with Mark Nellthorp in Counter Avoidance and raised concerns with grade 6 and grade 7 managers and colleagues on many occasions about Mark Nellthorp and his close G6s, but it fell on deaf ears. These people were to busy turning a blind eye as Mark and his 'facilitators' promoted them beyond their wildest dreams and capability.

My partner still has to work with these people who ignored the depravity in front of them. Its amazing they all still hold senior positions and manage many of the victims.

  15. HMRC will, as ever, only act when matters are so bad they can no longer be ignored.

The saying "The fish goes rotten from the head" has never been so apt.

Ever noticed how senior ranks of HMRC is infested with people who tend to utterly manipulative liars, somewhere on the Autistic spectrum or risk averse time servers who will do anything for an easy life?

A lot of that is because so many capable people bail out.

There is no Minister for HMRC. Mel Stride is Minister "responsible" for HMRC but is very different to having oversight of day to day departmental operations. He just parrots whatever bullshit he has been fed.

Root and branch reform is needed. HMRC is unfit for purpose on so many levels
