Calling HMRC

Owing to a screw up by HMRC, it is looking increasingly likely that I will have to call them next week.

Judging by other people's experiences, this will not be much fun and I will probably have to set aside many hours whilst I wait for an answer.

Pray for me!

Tax does have to be taxing.

Tax Investigation Insurance

Market leading tax fee protection insurance for businesses, sole traders and individuals. Protect yourself from accountancy fees in the event of an HMRC enquiry.

Having a Solar Protect Tax Investigation Insurance policy at your disposal means that should you be one of the many 1000's of businesses or individuals that are selected by HMRC each year to look into your tax affairs your own accountant (your tax return agent) can get on and defend you robustly.

You have the peace of mind knowing that your accountant's (your tax return agent) fees will be paid by the insurance without any Excess for you to find.

Tax Investigation Insurance is an insurance policy that will fully reimburse your accountant's (your tax return agent) fees up to £100,000 if you are subject to enquiry by or dispute with HMRC.

  2. In my experiences of ringing HMRC, expect approximately 40 minutes before you get to speak to a human. Prior to that you get to speak to an automated machine which is supposed to direct you to the correct department, guess what? The automated machine appears to be hard of hearing! When you eventually get through to a human it's normally a halfwit. Well done HMRC, yet again you go above and beyond with your incompetence.

  3. Please bear with them as they have a staffing crisis: too many decent HMRC staff have been bullied out by jealous and envious colleagues; other HMRC staff are still off on long term sick for the same reason; and half the rest are otherwise unemployable, f***wits.

As with many other issues, the workplace culture is a key trigger for the low service standards.

Football managers get sacked for poor results - HMRC promise knighthoods and bonuses to their failing CEOs. What an absolute farce.

  4. Why don't they get the lazy staff in Field Force to answers the phones?

  5. Most staff at SO and above could not care less about the calls not being answered.

They view taxpayers with the same disgust they view lower grade staff: complete scumbags who are invariably 'at it'.

This vile organisation should be abolished and replaced by a fit for purpose tax authority that has respect for people and respect for the rule of law.

    1. Could you please expand on what "at it" means?

    1. Good luck with that. Another "scumbag" who evades his (or her) tax.
