You should have tried actually reading the article.
DeleteIt's big, radical suggestion is replacing income tax with an increased 'consumption tax' or, as it's better known,VAT. So it's hardly a case of goodbye HMRC forever!
We would end up paying no income tax but the price of goods would treble or quadruple at least. Paying 'no tax' but 25 quid for a pint - great, can't wait!
The article concludes that a flat-rate income tax would be best, but this would hit the poorest members of society the hardest - again, great.
Shifting the tax burden to 'consumption' is regressive. It would fuel the growing decide in this once great country. Typical Daily Telegraph.
DeleteIt's only a few years ago that the Telegraph was a quality broadsheet, whether you agreed with it's politics or not.
