The Post Strike

Post Strike
The deadline for filing paper tax returns is 31 October. However, there is the strong possibility of a postal strike occurring on or after 22 October.

HMRC have confirmed that, in the event of a strike, the £100 penalty for late returns may well be waived for those delayed by the strike.

Approximately 9.2 million people file by paper, of these around 10% usually miss the deadline thus yielding the government an extra £100M in fines.

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Well dont know where you got that because we have been told they won't waiver any penalty or extend the deadline and they will have to submit it online instead.

  2. Why should the deadline be extended anyway it's not like people have only had a few days to submit the returns they have had the forms since April, 8 months plus the strike has been well documented.

  4. Not everyone can submit online.... our company can't and has to pay couriers in order to ensure the paperwork is guaranteed to get there in time.

  6. The postal strike at this time is a great bonus for HMRC. They can blame Royal Mail for the mess ups caused by their own ridiculous double posting system.
