Iain Dale Slams Conservative's 'Retrospective Tax'

"How can you justify a tax for hard working people that goes back 20 years?"

Stride replied:
"Because, if some time ago, you entered into one of these disguised remuneration schemes, where you're basically avoiding tax, there is no reason why we shouldn't collect that money."

Iain countered:
"But these are people who are not accountants. These are just normal hard working people. Change the system!"

Does Stride not know that avoidance is legal??

"It sounds outrageous. I can't believe that you want to penalise 100,000 working people and not people who are rich."

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Many of these people entered into the legal tax avoidance arrangements with little or no knowledge of the any potential pitfalls. Unjustified and unfair in many of the cases but sadly, lack of regard for people's rights, seems to be the way the powerful govern nowadays.

Meanwhile the vile behaviour of certain lawbreakers inside HMRC has gone unchecked, criminal offences and misconduct not investigated, and all with the full knowledge of the Chief Executive and the corrupt so-called 'People'/Human Resources bunch.

One rule for HMRC's 'special' ones another for the rest. HMRC have no respect for the rule of law and need root and branch reform.

  2. HMRC notified that these schemes would fail in 2010 , the clue is in the title "disguised remuneration " ! All tax avoidance schemes are legal until challenged -why should people avoid tax while everybody else has to cough up and since when has it been someones "right " to avoid tax ?
Its the usual bullshit about why the rich are not being targeted , they already have been on film schemes ! As Frankie Boyle said re tax avoidance just think of it as a childrens hospital buying you a pool table .

  3. Tax is collected off hard working people to give to lazy people....and that's fair because ? The harder you work the more you give away. That's the truth of it but we live with that but it is the truth.

  5. This is rubbish. The people entering into the arrangements were for the most part well aware they were seeking a tax advantage. There may be a few who didn't. They should be suing their advisers if the risks were not pointed out.
