"We will advise Ministers on new legislation to close down avoidance schemes and on simplifying current anti-avoidance legislation to make to easier to operate and understand while preserving its effect."

Source HMRC Delivering Our Vision Business Plan 2009-10 (page 8).

So that will include house flipping schemes used by MPs then?

How ironic that had MPs not been braying on and on about the "evils" of tax avoidance (which is perfectly legal), they might not have found themselves in the shit now.

Maybe they were of the view that "tax avoidance" is only that which is practised by "wealthy" individuals with offshore accounts?

What a foolish and ignorant notion that is.

Now they know better!

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Ken,

Perhaps this article will give you some more background as to why they have been pushing the tax avoidance stuff, even whilst ignoring it themselves.

Tax Avoidance and a lot more, including the source of the West Lothian question and why none of them will do away with it.

  2. First thing I see on page 2 is red? Page 8 - "reduce tax loss by 2.4bn in 2009-2010" Interpreted as "bleeding dry whats left of the productive part of the economy"

By the time I read page 10, I was rolling around the floor with laughter and disbelief.

Page 15 - if they achieve that, then this website is over.

In commercial terms, this document is just "business wank speak", meaning all talk.

All talk, just like Gordon Brown with his morality speech. Hmmm, I wonder what his moral compass is telling him this week eh? Tossers!
