Whither Kenny? II

Kenny
My thanks to the loyal reader who sent me a copy (see above) of Leslie Strathie's letter to HMRC staff about the departure of Bernadette Kenny (Director General of Personal Tax).

Stephen Banyard (Director of Business Customer Unit) takes over today, temporarily.

Strathie says that Kenny's full time post will be filled by "a competition" (Pin the tail on the donkey? Musical chairs?). I suspect that her note was written in haste, and that the "a" was a mistake.

Still, you never know:)

In the meantime, it seems that, Kenny will stay on for a "couple of months" to "transform" the department.

If Kenny really had "resigned" why shift her to another role for 2 months, why not simply let her stay in her current role until the term of her notice period expires?

Tax does have to be taxing.

  2. Pin the tail on the donkey with a twist! It will no doubt be the donkeys trying to pin the tail, there are certainly plenty to choose from in HMRC senior management.
As for Kenny spending 2 months 'transforming' another department, I bet that department can't wait given the fuck up she has presided over in personal tax.

  4. Her post shouldn't be filled at all, certainly not by an "open competition". Strathie, Hartnett and Clasper should absorb her role between them, as happens to mere mortals lower down the food chain when someone leaves.

  5. Agree with above.

She shouldnt be replaced by anyone.

Whatever she was meant to be doing should be added to the other muppets duties at that level and slap it into them.

As an AA, a colleague of mine left and wasn't replaced and when I flagged it up months later that I had been lumped with an another load I was met with blank faces, no one, PCS or line managers wanted to know. So whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

  9. Kenny is "transforming the Department" whilst being booted out of ExCom. The latest Org chart already has her temp replacement there, but no Kenny. Looks like gardening leave without the gardening or the leave as far as I can make out!
