  2. Sorry to go against the flow. I had to ring HMRC a couple of days ago. Phone picked up within ten seconds, by the person I wanted to speak to. I had tried the previous day, and the phone was picked up by her colleague, who informed me that she was out of the office for the day, but volunteered to pass on any message that I might want to leave.

      You have a direct dial number for the HMRC person dealing with your tax affairs on this occasion, the vast majority aren't afforded that luxury!!

  3. HRMC now feels that is better service to say, we are too busy to take your call and then auto hanging up rather than giving you the option to wait! #TerribleService!
