I understand, from a now deleted comment, that Edward Troup may be visiting an HMRC office to meet the staff in the near future?

That being the case, maybe the HMRC staff who visit this site might like to list the questions that they would like a brave colleague to ask him?

  1. How were you "misquoted "when you told the FT in 1999 that taxation was legalised extortion ? If as the department claims you have no direct involvement with tax payers affairs what the fuck do you do all day ? When are you off back to the private sector after youre well deserved rest and when can we expect the usual bs about how proud you are of everything the department has achieved in providing a world class customer centric service ?

  2. Edward, why does the CEO have an hmrc social media account with details about his holidays and hobbies etc? While we are sure the expensively assembled hmrc spin department told him 'to be real', do you understand that the public could not care less about such rubbish? What the public want from a well paid civil service CEO is a department which acts with a little integrity; is honest & even handed; picks up the phone within a reasonable time; and responds to correspondence without losing letters or deleting emails. When on the receiving end of shocking service, it doesn't really help taxpayers to know what the CEO had for tea last night and just seems totally unprofessional from the top.

  3. Is hmrc fit for purpose? Why is staff morale always so low? Can you think of any worse performing civil service department than hmrc? Do you really need so many staff employed in the SCS, HR, and media/spin departments and do you agree that the public view this as wasteful at a time when you are making redundant skilled frontline staff?

  4. It is doubtful that any question, of substance, put to this chappie, would be answeredwith any more clarity or honesty put to his predecessors.
    Poacher turned gamekeeper springs to mind.
    But, here goes;
    HMRC should be a world class organisation, across all areas especially staff and revenue protection. What will you do to turn around this dreadful Department and senior management in order to return to core values and responsibilities?
