  1. Never mind the crap "customer" phone "service", has anyone in HMG got a clue as to what is about to fly over the horizon wrt Brexit?
Very much doubt it, and following the car crash that was Broon's wicked spell what is awaiting Dear Old Blighty and others.
The UK had a singular department that operated across numerous agency dividing lines covering such aspects as immigration, smuggling of prohibitions and restrictions, revenue goods, plant health, animal health, exchange "controls", counterfeit goods and much more besides including statistics (very important), it also at one time had a network of "Intelligence" that actually worked.
Now we have HMRC, Border Farce, NCA/SOCA/NCIS (derived)and a few more besides...
HMG can't even get HMRC to act efficiently (IT, estates, bullying, did I mention phones?) WTF is going to happen post Brexit is anyones guess.

  2. I don't know one member of staff that wanted the merger of Customs and Excise and the Inland Revenue. Not one. We all predicted the shambles. Here's an example; very experienced Customs officers working on Cutters along the coast, suddenly put into offices to shovel paper because their particular patch was no longer going to be covered. It was covered eventually, by flying groups of officers from one end of the UK to the other - by which time all the drugs etc had gone to another port that was unmanned. Terrible shambles the merger, just terrible.

  3. All that matters is Building our Future . As long as they get a photo showing a few yes people who never touch anything to do with the public or tax standing on a shovel in some god forsaken place nobody wants to move to proclaiming a new dawn has arrived they don't care. And if I hear anymore about the new lockers I shall scream. Aarrgghhhh

    1. This would be the Glasgow Building Our future event that AO's are not allowed to go to. I smell a rat, possibly a redundancy rat. Do get me started on the recruitment freeze.

    4. Talk of Belfast Custom House being made into hotel...but then again...HMRC bigwigs seem to have miscalculated numbers for Erskine House, the new regional centre....so they may have to keep Custom House to deal with the overspill...what a surprise there !! Jon Thompson is crowing about all the new staff in the latest intranet blog....replacing years of experience for new entrants who get next to no training at all....great management strategy !!

  4. Just like Broons' merger, BOF is going to be another disaster which was entirely avoidable, except politicians agendas trump common sense.

    1. If you have to insult someone for being Scottish at least get it grammatically correct, Scotch only refers to whisky or tomatoes, please at least use Scots or Scottish...
