Special Announcement Updated

I am advised that HMRC is announcing the future of 130 offices tomorrow (Wednesday). The meetings will be held in 130 offices between 10-12.

The meetings are deemed important enough for at least one enquiry centre to be closed for two hours, whilst the announcements are being made.

Additionally, I am advised that HMRC senior management are being brought in to handle questions afterwards.

Please can someone provide me with more details about this?

Thanks.

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Dont know whats worse-the 130 office closure announcement, or HMRC senior management coming in to answer questions.

  2. Rumour has it that the office closures are being brought forward here in HMRC.

  3. This must be the beginning of the drive to improve morale?
Cram more in to less offices so senior managers can tighten their bullying grip?
Pink Floyds Brick In The Wall comes to mind. :)

  4. It is suspected that the announcements will be that most of the "non-strategic" sites will close and give dates. They need to lose approx 7000 jobs this year and this will help towards the target. It should be followed up with another 1000 job losses in the next few weeks.

Everything apart from the need to lose 7000 is speculation (but probably right). They could be announcing that everyone does a wonderful job, is getting a massive pay rise and a free holiday.

  5. It is time HMRC have a mass cull of senior management. That would get rid of at least 7000 expensive wastes-of-space at a stroke.

Let's face it, everyone knows they serve no useful purpose, plus it will boost morale no end to see the bullies get a taste of their own medicine!!!

  6. It is deeply disturbing that the posts appearing at frequent intervals on this site... refer to "incompetent management", bullies, spreadsheets, jackboots, Inland Revenue takeover... etc, etc. I am appalled that the taxes I pay are administered not by a civil service department but by what appears to be a very sick, blame culture and Nazi-style of government agency that has clearly lost the plot and is bedevilled by in-fighting and back-stabbing. I cannot believe that the UK's civil service has degenerated into such serious dysfunctionalism and anarchy like this. Please tell me this is not true.

  7. "Please tell me this is not true."

I am afraid my upbringing does not allow me to lie, so I am afraid it is true.

If you look through the posts about the staff survey and morale you will see the true extent of the problem.

  9. I can...

All senior managers are interested in is getting promoted & their annual bonus (something not available to me), they arent bothered about collecting tax or customer service - just themselves.
