Smiley!

The Mail on Sunday has caused a wee bit of a furore in the reserved ranks of the HMRC.

The paper reports that an anonymous group of HMRC staff posted a photo of themselves on Faecesbook wearing cardboard smiley faces.

Unfortunately for their hapless staff, HMRC ban employees from uploading material to social networking websites (HMRC worry about their "brand value").

To make matters worse, the above video was also posted onto the same Faecesbook page.

A witch hunt is now on.

The page now seems to have been taken down.

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Nice to see that amongst all the shit within HMRC call centers there is still some humour. Keep it up guys, you have support from some of us outsiders.

"Conservative MP Nigel Evans said: 'I deal with many constituents who suffer from HMRC's errors on tax returns who have to hold for hours to get through to someone."

Then get asking questions Mr Evans, you never know you may get some new supporters.

  2. You can bet your life that someone will be sacked over this........nothing better than a witch-hunt in HMRC than the option of helping the general public.

To add, this IS typical of the calls we get !!!

  3. Anon @ 20:27: "You can bet your life..."

You betcha... this farking place revolves around threatening its staff with C&D procedures at every turn. It is a "blame culture" through and through. If it is not spreadsheet paranoia on one hand then it is data security fixation and performance league tables on the other. These management twats ought to get a life and give us poor sods at the coalface a break!!!

  4. Have you seen the comments?

"They have access to facebook?" No we DON'T! 75% of HMRC doesn't even have ANY internet access and those that try and access facebook will find it is blocked.

Also the MP quoted in the article is one of the people that has decided that £54K+expenses is 'not enough to live on'. Try living on nearly a QUARTER of that as an AO with no promotion prospects. cf Lancashire Telegraph.

There was another one about being public servants therefore we should not have any fun in their own time. More right wing shit.

Also I've visited the site and there is NO WAY this would have been done whilst on the phone, not with Senior management withing 100 feet on both floors.

  5. Anonymous writes about "Data security fixation". Yes, why on Earth should we bother protecting customer data? After all, what's the worst that could happen?

Oh, wait, 25 million records getting lost in 2007, and the horrendous fallout that followed which has forever made HMRC's name synonymous with data loss.

I'm astounded when people see data security as something unimportant and aggravating - it's an essential part of conducting our business and we owe it to our customers. Do grow up.

Suddenly we care about our customers.Yeah right. All top shop care about is not being blamed for the next( inevitable ) fiasco, and getting out early with a nice pot of cash before the chickens REALLY come home to roost.
