Erroneous Fines

A loyal reader recently asked me if anyone else had issues with HMRC erroneously fining people for late filing:
"A recurring theme for me is clients being fined erroneously for late filing, and for new clients not receiving UTR numbers even though HMRC has a record of them being sent out.

Fines build up, I ring HMRC who say you are right we will put it right, then they don't and fines continue.

If debt is passed to private contractor then you are stuffed, nobody gives a damn they only want to collect your money.

What a shambles !!!!!

Do others have this problem ?"

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. The person who says "yes, you're right" is following the SWI but they have no control over the fines. Nothing is joined up. DMTC people calls about the fines also and get so frustrated as can't do anything.

  2. Every contact with HMRC is a complete nightmare [ like so many other big organisations ] now. Last nights Panorama on how the PO are treating sub-postmasters with cash discrepancies
sums it up really "computer says no;- computer can't be wrong!]

  3. I was surprised that this site was silent on the "retiral" of Gordon Brown recently;- As Kens preamble says it was he who created this monumental shambles by merging the revenue with C&E;- Tax credits was one of his "big ideas" [ which he nicked from America by the way} and look at the mess that's in too!
