Has Homer Gone?

A number of loyal readers have commented on the word "lately" re Homer's Damehood:
"Order of the Bath Dames Commander of the Order of the Bath Ms Linda Margaret HOMER, CB Lately Chief Executive, HM Revenue and Customs. For public service particularly to Public Finance. (Hadleigh, Suffolk)."
Does this mean she has already left office?

If so, why has there been no advert for the job yet?

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Wow, if you cn obtain a damehood following decades of abject failure and incompetance in public office - Birmingham, Rail, Allah D'oh UKBA, HMArsey et. al., then just WTF will people get for doing a good job, fitted?!
This makes a mockery of 'public service' and Homer's name does not sit well in the same paragraph containg the words public service.
Wouldn't wish to make this rant too personal but if the sheeple sit back and do not make their collective voices heard, so be it.
As for the public sector unions?
The least staff, present and past should do is write to their M.P.'s.
It may take Hitchins in the Mail to kick start MSM verbosity.
    Ah well, happy new year?

  2. Predicted this ages ago, part of the 'revolving door' cycle of lunacy.Ken might find more than one reference to this among the archives!

It is an absolute slap in the face for the staff and not only rewards failure but illustrates how corrupt the system has become. Shame on you Prime Minister, might as well close the PAC and NAO as part of the process. Can't wait to see the shite storm of protests from MP's, public and professionals. What do you mean, no-one cares, perhaps then, she has been justly rewarded 'for doing her job'?

What next, split and privatise revenue collection, decriminalise tax fraud, civil penalties only - well the banks worldwide only seem to get fined. If tax fraud can be proved to be part of a criminal enterprise or initiative then let the NCA deal with it.

    1. There is nothing wrong with the experienced Investigation officers in HMRC- they are just being deployed badly dealing with single tax dodgers and not the organised gangs they were trained to investigated and prosecute. Another reason staff engagement is so low

    2. Agreed, but hey why go for the hard core criminal fraternity when there's the low hanging fruit available to massage the figures and keep the number crunchers and bean counters happy? Yet more dumbing down of a once proud, successful and perhaps even feared investigation service? If not feared then at least the bad-guys would once upon a time have had one eye over their shoulder, now they couldn't give a flying ****!

  3. English lesson follows. Lately does not mean that she is no longer in post. It means most recently Chief Executive of HMRC. Late Chief executive of HMRC would mean she was no longer in post.

  5. I can't think why I wonder whether Putin has a sister? Nevermind.
Anyway, the sooner we are shot of this individual the better. If, as many suspect, Homer is an Illumni of the Common Purpose Neuro Linguistic School for Free Thinking Managers then Heaven and all its Angels Help the next organisation visited by this individual.
Be an interesting package to transfer with, bonus, super dupa pension, lump sum (the size of a small countries national defecit) and of course all the accolades of the Lean Evangelistas.
Glass ceiling, my arse, the whole sordid path of a slimy career makes the average open drain look inviting.
Let us hope she does not end up heading anything important.
Happy New Year? I think not.
Disgrace and a horrible insult to the long suffering workers remaining in HMRC.

  7. This "award" will be beyond most of HMRC's employees' comprehension and will rankle with many many hard working and dedicated members of staff, I'm sure.

Given that there's been the announcement recently, that HMRC is to be reduced to 13 "Major" Sites and many many low-paid civil servants will lose their jobs or be forced to resign because travelling costs and pressure on work/life balance will leave them no alternative. This award will stick in the craw of a huge number of HMRC employees if not 90% of them. The remaining percentage will be those wasters and cocksuckers who have been or will be blowing smoke up her arse during her tenure.

She is the epitomy of how ludicrous and ridiculous HMRC has become in the last few years (4/5 years). There are far too many chiefs and nowhere near enough indians. UPPER Management WILL not or REFUSE to listen to those who work on the "Coalface"!!!!

There's a huge number of experienced long serving staff, who just can't wait to get out and leave Homer and her sycophants behind to make HMRC a much bigger joke than it already is!!!!

This is not a political award but more of one which has been dictated by the backroom "Senior Civil Servants aka "Fucking Knobs" looking after their own gobshites/wankers.

Lin Homer will now lose all credibilty with HMRC staff NOT that she had any with them ever in her tenure.

She will hope perhaps that she never ever steps in front of a car driven by an HMRC employee.

    Let's see what happens.

  8. Cant leave comments on the intranet newsboard regarding her damehood. Gushing item of her wonderful service over the years. What a pile of sickening shit. Cowardly in that no one can leave a comnent.

    4. This is the unbelievable announcement that no one can make comment on. Flies in the face of her ACTUAL career "achievements.

Lin Homer has a track record in taking on some of the toughest and highest profile jobs in government. Having transformed Suffolk and Birmingham County Councils, she ran immigration and asylum services in the Home Office for more than five years. As Permanent Secretary of the Department for Transport, she guided the department through the highly complex HS2 consultations. Now Chief Executive of HMRC, Lin has met the department’s financial targets with fewer staff and improved staff engagement figures.

      Still making me angry.

  9. So, use your voices, contact your MP's, newspapers, local radio, union, TUC, raise hell, don't just sit back and do feck all! I await the placement of a knockout government petition on
    https://petition.parliament.uk/
This award serves to illustrate that the statement 'we are all in this together' is total BS not just BS!

    1. I was thinking about the petition idea too, but it's not quite as straightforward as that - the rules prohibit petitions in respect of honours and appointments. There have already been a couple on Crosby's gong that have been rejected.

  10. A lot of experienced former Customs/Revenue officers have gone. No one really knows whats happening. And then this oul bag fucks off with a fat cheque and pat on the back from the queen.

  11. Conspiracy theory - if you wanted to discredit the 'honour's system' prior to getting rid of it this is a good way to go.

To be awarded this after such a catastrophic career history means she has done exactlywhat TPTB wanted - across all her fields of 'influence'.

I have a lasting hysterical image of her appearing at the new UK Borders on TV, the, I think, PM and Home Secretary were being escorted by some twat of a Borders management wallah and she was struggling to keep up from some distance astern looking more like a bag carrier than a bag carrier.

Trouble is, as is well knowm, a horrible mess is left in the wake of this drifting wreck.

  12. HMRC =her majesty's revenue and corporate communications. Customs is dead and buried. There are now over 200 in corporate communications, protecting the supreme leader and her sycophants in the ivory tower of of Parliament Street. 16. The noise of protest from the sheeple is deafening, so loud I can't hear it for some reason?!

They must be so happy and content in their jobs that they have shown little dissent upon Homer's 'award'. The few that have seen fit to protest or air their views hereon are just that, 'the few'.

  18. As a current employee of HMRC, trying to become a half decent VAT officer as the organisation disintegrates with the idiot Homer in charge, I can only endorse all these comments 100 times over. Unfortunately, as long as we have public sector hating politicians in charge, this idiot and her ilk will be promoted instead of people who actually know what they are doing.

  19. @ 11.25 on 6th Jan.

Where do you suggest they protest? This site is one place, and press reporting is, for once, an accurate reflection of how people, tax payers and those in HMRC feel.

    1. I suggest the sheeple (those who sit back and ruminate) protest wheresoever their nerves and nous allow them to!
Judging by the lack of protest from within HMRC it would appear that the vast majority are totally supportive of the award made to Homer, happy in their work and fully 'engaged' or whatever.
On a serious note in response to your question, I think the majority are so fecking afraid to say anything, its a wonder HMRC didn't come out top of the popularity list.
This debacle is a bit like the old Windmill Theatre, continuing to run no matter what was thrown at it by the Hun. The problem is, from a taxpayers/customers perspective the curtain should have dropped some years past.
With regard to the @ 17:41 on 7th January...
The old adage of The Emperor's New Clothes has been used by me for years, the weasels know who post reality by misuse of ripa methodology, to believe otherwise would be foolish as was proved in the case of Osita Mba (Google it).
Who will they have at the helm after Homer goes, probably someone from the financial world again.

    3. I have seen with my own eyes what happens to people who push back - they end-up in the bottom 10%, which is then used as stepping-stone to implement poor performance procedures.

You can't blame staff for not wanting to paint a bullseye on their back and as for PCS, there have been cases of sacked reps who were not supported by the union, but who went on to win at ET. If that's what reps face, then God help the average member.

  22. And it gets even more comical when a staff member comments on Homer's "honour".
They have to do this in another gushing news article as Homer's gong announcement has been barred from comments.
Not long afterwards the fascist bootboys of corporate communications are in shooting down this member of staff for having the gall to criticise the golden balls Homer.
Corporate communication then go on to thanks every "positive" comment individually. You couldn't make it up.
