Some Signs of Encouragement

Morale
Stephen Timms, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said that the results of the recent HMRC staff survey showed "some signs of encouragement".

So that's alright then!

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. As a "customer" the re-modelled HMRC is not a barrel of laughs. Does this mean that the management is a Firkin Joke?

  2. the encouragement comes from the fact they still have some staff and they haven't all escaped to other roles in less awful places.

(not that HMRC are the only place to have serious staff morale problems)

  5. Encouraging? I'm an investigator (ex-Customs, naturally). We spend our time these days looking for a "direct tax" link in major jobs against the most ruthless, violent and generally arsehole people. The fact that they are screwing you and me, the taxpayers, via fags, booze, drugs and vice is immaterial. The only thing that matters is that the revenue wankers who have taken over our service get their bennies. Fuck them. We are still real investigators, we take on some serious criminals, not unmarried mothers and recalcitrant fathers. Support us, we're trying to help all of us taxpayers, not the revenue wankers' numbers game.
