HMRC MTD Project Structure

It looks pretty accurate to me!

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Very funny but scarily accurate. Hype, disruption and buzzwords? So true. That's what happens when you have a tax authority with huge numbers employed in unproductive roles. How about they just collect tax in an even-handed, lawful and fair way? Oh that would be far too simple; people in the unproductive highly paid roles would face redundancy and unemployment, so that'll never happen.

  2. This is no joke. Made up jobs in HMRC are a real fact of life. And its your taxes paying for them.

  3. Structure looks like a cross twixt the committee that ended up designing the camel and a chinese parliament.

Do they have a coporate brain cell among them?

  4. Although it would not be possible to have figures available, those of us employed at HMRC cannot fail to notice that the ratio of Coalface jobs (have to actually work and are under pressure) versus Made Up pointless jobs has changed markedly in the past couple of years. There are more and more people on the Office floors, some with ridiculous titles, who don't seem to do very much. They attend lots of meetings, huddle together for chats in corridors, drink lots of tea and coffee, have loud voices and use lots of buzzwords, offer condescending advice to more experienced workers, gather around boards and try to outdo each other in the ' whose nonsense sounds most credible' contest, and overall avoid doing a days work.
For them it's all about'me,me,me and my promotion' and nowt much else.

    1. Perhaps too many of these 'very important jobsworths' in unproductive made up jobs, doing the stuff described above, explains the mess HMRC are in?

I recognise the type described - I've often wondered if these people are as great as they think they are, then why the hell don't they do the real work they're paid to do: collect some tax without all the flippin fuss!!!

    2. Why would they want to work hard for £18k and risk a taxpayer shouting or even assaulting them, when they can feel very important doing sweet FA, while drinking copious amounts of coffee, without ever having to speak to the public, in return for collecting their £50k+ salaries???

    3. While they "huddle together for chats in corridors" what is it they are discussing?

    4. They are discussing the rest of the "real" workforce who haven't had a brown enough tongue to take it up arse.....these lickspittles make me want to vomit...fuck em !!

    5. Ken, the culture as described above is obviously one which despises hard work & excellence and perhaps explains why HMRC are a monumental shambles?

    6. It seems HMRC have two types of workforce, "Real" and "Pretend" (those in made up jobs). Not a problem if we were talking about the odd one or two shirkers, but when up to 60% are in the "Pretend" bit that's a lot of employees not answering telephone calls etc.

  5. Drain the swamp: create a new tax department.
