  1. The returns are scanned and captured from a digital copy, one likely scenario is that the returns were printed off by the tax payer from the Gov. UK website and one was put in the envelope without he UTR/NINO written on it. It is not unusual to receive paper returns without even a name on them let alone a reference, they are no use for anything.

  2. Rubbish. Someone was testing the system. The scanning is privatised and nobody could match the two returns. Get a proper answer to this.

    1. Rubbish?? I have seen it a lot. Match the returns with what? The only thing they need to matched with is the tax payers record. One was obviously scanned under the tax payers UTR and the other wasn't, simple. It's a perfectly feasible reason and a proper answer. Testing the system???

  3. Yawn. Happens all the time. They'll just cancel the penalty.

  4. God knows. Does it really matter. It's only a long un for the penalty anyway.

  5. I worked with a guy who sent a complaint letter to PCS, (outlining bullying, discrimination etc), inside a VAT assessment addressed to a private residence. I removed it before it was sealed and posted, :) .
