HMRC Morale at Rock Bottom


Ashdown Group reports that research by Bloomsbury Professional recently found that morale is at rock bottom at the HMRC.

The research found that 45% of all HMRC staff feel that they are overworked, up from 35% a year ago. 


Over three-quarters (76%) said they do not feel they are well-managed. 

The majority (80%) of the staff feeling underpaid.

  2. HMRC will always excel at disappointing its customers, the HMRC system is designed that way. its called the HMRC cluster fuck, get used to it guys and use its weak points and inefficiencies to your advantage.

  5. Mr Muppet...enlighten me with a few pearls of your wisdom how we can change this hell hole for the better.....everything has been tried bar shooting senior management.

    Correct me if i'm wrong but you have no experience of working in this place....management just don't listen !!

    Direct your ire at where the buck stops......not at the easy targets who decide to give their opinion and get slapped in the face.Managers get their "i've engaged with the staff" box tick....but fuck all is done about it.

    Instead of having a good old moan yourself,since it's you that is being shafted by us,the shit organisation......what would you do ? It's no skin of my nose...i didn't fill the survey in as it was a pointless exercise.

    1. The sad thing is we could go on strike for a week...two weeks and EXCOM wouldn't care...they have us by the,as you say it,pair......the post just piles up......they fiddle the figures....and we are told...everything is rosy in the garden.We are powerless.

      We are currently sitting on a huge backlog of post.....the customer is getting shafted....and senior management just don't care.

      It's a sad state of affairs.....and i honestly admit to being proud to have worked for the Inland Revenue......not this shower !!

      All we want to do is come in and do a decent day's work....that is impossible now .

      Each day we come in to the circus and wonder what the clowns have come up with that day...it really is that bad. :(

  7. So, only 22% of staff want to leave in the next 12 months, as staff are possibly holding out for promotion. Bollocks! - staff are holding out for exit packages.

    As for doing something about HMRC - many have tried and failed as there is no public support.

    2. If the question asked was "would you leave if you were offerred another job elsewhere" the percentage of those saying "Yes" would be far higher. It's just a badly (or from HMRC's viewpoint, a brilliantly) worded question. HMRC being ambiguous? Never.

  8. the way to get attention is to get YOUR unions and reps to get off their arses and start earning your support! TWO weeks of National tools down WOULD focus everyone's attention on your plight.

  9. The place is a mess. One of the things I remember was PCS members sneaking in when others were standing outside on strike. Then when these same people had issues they cried down the phone to a PCS rep and the next thing they were going into a room for a private consultation with PCS. I left after that. The management are not the only muppets inside HMRC. If you can, I would just leave. Going down the road of getting involved with PCS and your managers is just death by a thousand cuts.
