My thanks to a loyal reader who has alerted me to problems wrt duplicate receipts of corporation tax payments being made by HMRC.
"You may be interested to learn that HMRC has been duplicating receipts of Corporation Tax payments and then making repayment to the company.Have other people come across this problem?
We discovered this when a corporate client received repayment of the Corporation Tax liability we had advised them to pay. Checking HMRC's Online Services we noted that the payment had been recorded twice (and had misdescribed the method of payment).
HMRC has just called to advise that they have discovered this has happened with other corporate taxpayers but did not know:
- how many companies had been impacted
- which companies had been impacted
- what had caused the problem
- how they were going to fix the problem
At a time when public finances are so stretched, we are sure you would agree that the level of incompetence demonstrated by HMRC is appalling and the fact that they have not a clue how and when they are going to resolve the matter shows just how poor HMRC's senior management team is performing."
Tax does have to be taxing.

Beggars belief!
ReplyDeleteHMRC are totally incompetent and are seemingly allowed to break the law at will. The connection between their incompetence and law breaking is the total lack of accountability i.e. so long as their face fits, no individual in the employment of HMRC is ever punished for incompetence or law breaking (in fact decent hard working staff are something like one thousand times more likely to be 'fitted up' for something entirely bogus). HMG needs to urgently get a grip of this so-called tax department.
ReplyDeleteOnce law breaking and misconduct has occurred within HMRC, the evidence is the management have no interest in seeing justice done. No matter the victims, their focus is on 'protecting' the institution and they will lie through their teeth and do whatever they deem necessary, to do so. If only these wallys had any idea what they are 'protecting' it from, since the truth always outs eventually. Powerful organisations can't always expect to bully the little person and escape justice forever.
DeleteHellooooo is anybody in there?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what they are doing?
Time for the doors to revolve again, stand clear...
