Welcome Moira

HMRC having sacked Adam Hart-Davis as their front man, for his comments about the complexity of tax, have now recruited Moira Stuart as the new face of HMRC's Self Assessment TV advertising campaign.

The adverts will feature Moira "popping up in unexpected places" to remind people of the deadline dates. Moira will also be appearing on billboards and posters, and in press and online ads, encouraging people to beat the deadlines and file on time.

Excellent!

However, I understand from a comment posted on Accounting Web, that:

"There is such a backlog of returns not even logged as received with half the staff not trained to capture them, they will just add to the stock-pile on window ledges, desks and floors."

Maybe the money spent on hiring Moria would have been better spent on improving the systems in house?

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Surely, anything that keeps Moira on our screens is worth it.

  3. I would take much more notice of Kiera Knightley popping up in unexpected places.

They should stick a few porn pics in that boring Employer's CD rom too, we might bother to look at it then.

Don't be daft... they only put private & confidential information on CDs.

I very nearly fell asleep during that advert, she's so dull! At least Adam Hart Davis had an interesting voice.

    The advert should say:

Time is running out to file your tax return. If you're late, you face a £100 penalty. If our systems crash, you'll face a £100 penalty and be blamed for the catastrophic failure of our online systems. If you refuse to pay us for our incompetence, we'll impose a further £100 charge.
If you’ve been affected by last year’s datagate fiasco and in accordance with Mr. Brown’s “fairer Britain” policy, this penalty will be reduced to £50.

  6. Bring back Mrs Doyle.
She was much less irritating than our line manager.
