I was a tad gobsmacked when I heard Danielle Stewart (partner in Baker Tilly) singing HMRC's praises (re their handling of post) in this video discussion about the recent Budget.
Run the video forward to 17:30 and you will hear her say the following about HMRC's postal delays:
"so much better over recent years......their standard of response nowadays is so fast you can't believe it compared to what it used to be.
You could wait months for a reply.
Now you'll be surprised if you wait a week."I can only conclude that she must have some special postal arrangement with HMRC.
Stuart Jones is less than impressed:
"Would she please tell the rest of us which HMRC she is writing to because it definitely isn't the one I deal with every day?I welcome examples from the non Danielle Stewart real world of HMRC's postal response times.
P.S. I have been writing this as I wait for HMRC to answer the phone. Up to now I have waited 24 minutes 29 seconds."
Tax does have to be taxing.

ReplyDeleteSo far I have been waiting for 22 minutes - on hold to the tax office - after trying and failing to obtain a satisfactory answer to my question online. I have been hung up on 4 times today by their shambolic call handling system..once after 15 minutes waiting . they REALLY ARE SHITE. Do they they have to make public profits gained from the 0845 numbers we are forced to call?
ReplyDeleteJust had a 45min wait with no answer! AND prior to that I had a 15min wait when the call disconnected! Absolute Shite! Completely unacceptable for this not to be 0800 as they know fully well it takes people forever to get through! #ShouldBeIllegal
ReplyDeleteI just received a reply from hmrc on 17 November , which wasdated 3 November, in response to my letter of 24 September!!
