HMRC's Ten Ways To Identify Evasion

The FT has provided a good summary of the 10 ways — some high-tech, some very traditional — that HMRC can use to identify possible tax evasion.

At the heart of HMRC’s counter-evasion efforts lies a powerful computer program called “Connect”. launched in 2010.

HMRC recently acquired the right to force apps and platforms such as Apple, Amazon and Airbnb to hand over data — including names and addresses of sellers and advertisers — that would help it identify tax-evading businesses. Unsurprisingly the Electronic Money Association, which represents companies like eBay, Airbnb and PayPal, worries there are insufficient safeguards concerning the way the data are used.

Fear and informants also feature on the list.

Happy reading everyone!

  1. As HMRC have allowed criminals in their employment to unlawfully disclose personal data without ANY punishment or repercussions to the criminal offender, it is clear that they should not be trusted with such wide ranging powers to collect such data without safeguards in place; and starting point has to be prosecution of current & historic offenders (yes, even those bullies sit comfortably on taxpayer funded early retirement) to send a message out to all current employees that such law breaking will not be tolerated.

  2. An immoral and corrupt organisation - which has wilfully destroyed employees lives via violence, assaults, bullying, intimidation, discrimination, dishonesty, dishonesty & more dishonesty and law breaking!!!

  3. Connect the dots! This lot would have trouble connecting with reality never mind connecting dots.
Anyone that has served time in an HMRC open prison will have seen the Lean and Pacesetter/Common Purpose brainwashed trying to connect to the real world as the fabulous 'hub time' approached. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest pales into insignificance when compared to the zombies who are the Pacesetter Acolytes serving the whiteboard statistical version of The Magic Roundabout combined with The Clangers.
Connect! LMAO - they need to wake up and realise what they have actually got, which if used properly would benefit the wider UK Law Enforcement network with some forward thinking analysts.
So, until the blind have the veil lifted then 10 ways will never be near the 100 or more ways it could be.
Sorry, forgot, Taxpayer Confidentiality overules all.
    Still, what price a soundbite?
