DRD Epetition

My thanks to Mike Truman (Editor of Taxation) for alerting us to a petition against the proposals to allow HMRC to take money from recalcitrant debtors' bank accounts (aka “Direct Recovery of Debt” - DRD).:
"Your readers may be interested to know that Taxation has launched an epetition to get these proposals pulled from the Finance Bill 2015 and have a proper consultation about the problem of deliberate non-payers.

It's at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/68384 and has picked up well over 600 signatures in just a few days.

  1. I would not trust hmrc to tell the time honestly let alone give them these powers.
    You have to wonder whether our political elite bother to read any of the reports they commission?
    An example is the re-visit Proceeds of Crime Report by HMIC I quote:-
    Key Findings;
    V) This revisit has found that progress has been slow. HMIC considers that hmrc has failed to adhere to and implement the 2011 reports recommendations in a way that HMIC would have expected. (WTF!? This must be the understatement of the century wry hmrc) but...
    VI) Although hmrc had developed an action plan there was a lack of effective governance... (umm, excuse me, WTF are all these directors and other hangers on being paid to do?)
    The best is yet to come...
    VII) Contrary to hmrc's March 2013 action plan which stated that all recommendations had been 'closed', HMIC found that only 3 of the 15 recommendations have been discharged...
    Draw your own conclusions, but "economical with truth" is a good starter for 10?
    This is HMIC now, hmrc have already been caught out lying by Courts, PAC and the NAO. Are there no depths to which they will not go? Never mind waking up PAS or the media, what about the Government itself FFS?
    Ken, can you not help to draw the threads closer together? Everyone else is walking around in a daze or stupor.
    see HMIC.
