According to the Telegraph recently, within months a major British bank will start using personality tests as part of its decision making about whether or not to lend to individuals.

In theory this will allow lenders to form an idea of how we would be likely to behave in certain scenarios. It tests our work ethic and, according to the firm that pioneered it, VisualDNA, it assesses our “humility”.
“Do you feel you have a right to material goods such as cars and expensive TVs? Or do you feel you have to earn and afford these things?” asks one of the firm’s directors, in explaining the type of information the test elicits. “Not everyone has a credit score, but they do have a personality.”
What has this got to do with HMRC?

Alarmingly the article goes on to speculate that HMRC will adopt this technique, as it has been quick to adopt much of the data-screening technology of the private sector.

This will not end well!

Tax does have to be taxing.

  2. So an article in a newspaper "speculates" HMRC may do something? Bit of a tenuous link to this isn't it? Slow news day I guess.

    1. Don't interrupt them! As long as their journalists are kept occupied constructing men out of straw, the rational people of the world can move along continuing not to notice them.

  3. Any of this lot having been on a Common Purpose event will have been subject to neuro-linguistic programming and brain-washed without realising it anyway.
Eyes wide shut, sleepwalking into the darkness, they will be the first to accept being "chipped" - "because there is nothing to fear". But there will always be some tw@t insisting on a spreadsheet!
Imagine what the call centres will be like with drones hovering above workstations and the staff plumbed into the loos and tea machines so there is no downtime away from the workstation.
Nah, forget that one, it's already in operation!
No wonder the staff refer to them as modern day sweat shops, you would be treated better making trainers in China, and you would not be incensed by your bosses going to church to praise their "successes".
