HMRC Accounts Qualified for 14th Year In a Row

The National Audit Office (NAO) report on HMRC's accounts noted that as far as HMRC’s figures can be relied on, error and fraud in tax credits and child benefit payments increased again in 2017-18.

Tax credit overpayments increased to 4.9% (£1.3bn) of tax credits expenditure during the year, while child benefit fraud and error accounts for an estimated £155m,  just 1.3% of total expenditure.

Yet HMRC expect us to trust them!

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. When HMRC covered up law-breaking - criminal & civil - I learned long ago that they cannot be trusted. An absolutely dishonest, shambolic & disgraceful misfit of an organisation IMHO!!!

  4. HMRC: An organisation who brutally bully their own staff ,
then lie all about it, smear the victims , destroy peoples health and careers ,
we should thus not have no expectation of trust from them ,
always treat them with the appropriate level of suspicion

  5. They could save money on fuel by powering the buildings on the weapons grade bovine excrement that's spouted.

    1. Don't blame the lower grade staff....remember 40,000 staff made redundant in last 10 years...blame it on senior management.

    2. Yep, totally agree. While there are some lazy, dishonest & nasty individuals among junior grade staff (you get them in all workplaces), the toxic issues within HMRC from the unlawful, violent, inhumane, bullying of some staff, through to organisational poor performance all stem from how the out of control dept is mismanaged by the Senior Management. Never mind the Honours system will no doubt 'recognize' another HMRC failure again soon...

  7. When a HMRC manager committed criminal offences, not least in relation to Data Protection Act 1998 and CRCA 2005, this amounted to gross misconduct and she should have been dealt with accordingly i.e. Dismissal and consideration of prosecution.

When the same manager then invented a false narrative which was plainly fiction to deny and excuse her law-breaking this was not challenged by HMRC even though, that too amounted to gross misconduct in relation to honesty & integrity.

Other false statements made by this same individual manager, with proven bad character, were then submitted in false statements in a defense to legal proceedings against HMRC, in HMRC's deliberate and dishonest attempt to prevent a fair outcome - thus striking right at the heart of the rule of law.

How on earth are the public supposed to trust those rogues?
