The Tonight Programme

Here is a link to the video of last night's Tonight programme about HMRC.

Tax does have to be taxing.

HMRC Is Shite (, also available via the domain, is brought to you by "The Living Brand"

  1. I work for HMRC and in the past have been resposnible for the service of high court documents (Bankruptcy petitions, Statutory Demands under the Insolvency Act etc) and so found the first case mentioned disingeneous - the first thing a person knows about being made bankrupt IS NOT when an Insolvency Practioner appears on the scene, you first get a Stat Demand and then a Bankruptcy Petition (along with numerous warning letters first).
I am not excusing the errors that were made but pointing out the process.

  2. I work for HMRC - The tonight programme should ask for copies of the Dave King/Janet Robinson report, Ian Wright/ Dona Todd, and Jim Samson/ Heather Whittaker - these are reports HMRC do not want the press to know about. Ring up the Chairman and asked for them under the Freedom of Information act, if necessary.

  3. This programme did not, as I recall, touch on the many issues of misconduct and bullying within HMRC. Any new television documentary needs to explore this and ask did & searching questions. Those guilty of such behaviour need to be publically named & shamed so that the public know who they are, and in order that any potential future employers know of their history of wrongdoing (particular when that wrongdoing included breaking the law). All we want is for HMRC to be open and act with integrity. Until they do, some uncomfortable truths will be revealed.
