£10M Cumulative HMRC Bonuses Rewarding Failure

The Sun reports that bonus payouts to HM Revenue and Customs have hit a four-year-high

Former CEO Dame Lin Homer picked up the maximum bonus of £17,500 in each of the last two years on top of her annual salary package of £185,000.

Additionally, 80 of the most highly-paid civil servants were also handed lump sums of between £9,500 and £17,500.

The four year cumulative bonuses total £10M, bonuses in 2016 totalled £2.5M (the highest since 2012).

A reward for failure!

  1. HMRC CEO is apparently fascinated by leadership?

I tell you what fascinates me with leadership, its those so-called leaders who take HUGE bonuses in addition to unjustifiably huge salaries, all while failing to deliver, and then they expect to have credibility with the staff who they probably purport to 'lead' and who have to suffer disgusting working conditions and pay freezes!

Not sure how self aware they are, but this public sector gravy train for failure disgusts the hard-working majority who have to pay such high amounts of tax (while seeing constant cutbacks in public services) and many of whom probably have their own experiences of being treated like dirt by HMRC.

We currently have a crisis in housing, education, health, mental health & social care in the UK (to name just a few issues) and to see failures taking bonuses on top of the fatcat pay packages they collect is disgraceful.

If you are earning £185k basic pay in the public sector the only bonus you need is the opportunity to serve. Any extra money is pure greed.

  2. Who said tax is theft eh?

  3. Set your own 'targets', remembering they must be Realistic, Attainable and Measurable, and then self-assess your performance whilst evidencing your competancies achieved.
    What could go wrong.
It's only 'customers' money after all.
And you conceited fools at the top, why are they customers when there is still a tax-payers charter and you spout 'taxpayer confidentiality' as it suits you.

    2. What targets do HMRC have? The was a lot of noise about tax avoidance at one point, its all gone rather quiet though!

  4. The elites look after the elites.

    Its reward for failure.

They make up the 'rules' as they go along.

As a tax payer who has recently been 'robbed' by that lot it feels like theft, it feels totally criminal.

We live in a country where people are waiting for NHS operations, people are sleeping on the sleeps at night.

Its a rigged system by the elite for the elite - as the above says DRAIN THE SWAMP and BRING BACK INTEGRITY TO PUBLIC LIFE IN THE UK!

  5. On the general issue of HMRC performance and targets - in recent years we have seen media reports of the Panama papers and 6000 names leaked by HSBC. How many prosecutions did this result in? How much money was recovered to the exchequer?

  6. Is the case that the poor and 'just about managings' have to pay so much tax to keep the lazy elite types in a certain lifestyle?

  7. Sad thing is senior management just don't give a fuck and are giving us all the proverbial middle finger...scum !!

  8. Its obscene. Rewarding failure while others who pay tax suffer austerity. The system must be change. Don't know how some people sleep at night when accepting these bonuses.

  9. Senior management, now there is a contradiction in terms.
These twats don't sleep at night because that is when the nightstalkers are active, they cast no shadows and have no reflection in a mirror.
Lack of a soul is a brilliant behaviour to exhibit on your self assessment along with possession of a forked tongue and a desire to crawl over your fellow beings.

  10. How many of these idiots are getting paid more than the Prime Minister?

  11. Putting aside the bonus(a sickening waste of public money) can anyone please explain why on earth the CEO of a failing Government Department would be able collect a basic salary which is considerably more than the Prime Minister earns?

    2. No. Lobbying of those who decide SCS pay more likely? One may call it selfish greed when lower grade staff have been stuck on pay freezes for years, but senior management may call it 'leadership' nowadays.

  12. We hear a lot about "the public service ethos", "a calling to serve" and a "sense of duty". There are, no doubt, many such people working in frontline public services but their ideals are undermined by the perception created by the elites at the top who, while obviously failing in their job, happily agree to take huge bonuses in return for nothing from tax money, often coming from millions of low paid EARNING a pittance, create a perception of a public sector "gravy train".

  13. Lazy. Bullies. Unproductive. Failures. All aboard the gravy train.
