    1. My partner sent a letter to this man, while he was at HMRC, regarding bullying and law breaking by management. He ignored the issue and passed it on to Charmaine De Souza. She sent a patronising and dismissive response and failed to instigate any action against the law breaker. The law breaker escaped ANY disciplinary action even though other staff have rightly been dismissed for less. What were they trying to protect we wonder?

    2. Ignoring allegations of lawbreaking, again, shorely thats illegal in itself and deserving of IPCC Investigation, but who will start the procedure?

      Don't hold your breath folks!

    3. As an ex-employee of HMRC who was left with suicidal thoughts and serious illness as result of their persistent bullying, the lack of accountability from those at the top really resonates.

The IPCC and others should long ago have investigated HMRC and in particular why Senior Management, Human Resources function (HR) and Internal Governance have spectacularly failed to discharge their legal duties.

    4. Concerning to read that HMRC leave staff suffering suicidal thoughts. The criminal law around workplace bullying needs to be improved. I never thought it would be a problem in a large civil service dept due to the plethora of 'squeaky clean' policies which in theory 'govern' the dept - maybe that's all just a cloak they hide behind!

"MoD is a vile place where bullying and harassment is covered up and where many of the SCS and 2-3 stars are glitteringly stupid and have no idea of how to manage. Be smart and work elsewhere".

    From civilserviceworld.com 20/02/17 comment:
"There is a lot of talk on Equality and health and safety of staff. However reality is different. I had bitter experiences since becoming disabled after a major accident few years ago. I work for HMRC and have constantly faced discrimination since becoming disabled. I am suffering from chronic pains and have mental health issues. I am at more disadvantage because my disability is not visible. I had to wait months to years to get OH recommended equipment. I had to face MPA process for sickness even though I was still awaiting for necessary adjustments recommended by my GP and two OH reports. I had bouts of clinical depression three times because of treatments I have received from management. I was top performer before and I am now seen as an easy target to give poor performance. OH reports are completely ignored at times. My work life has remained a constant uphill struggle. Reading the above article seems like just talk to me. "

    From civilserviceworld.com 07/09/17 comment:
"I agree with you Winston. Though in HMRC it would be nice to work in an environment not overshadowed by bullying and fear of management just making stuff up; that really does have a detrimental affect on our health, wellbeing and ultimately standard of living."

It would appear from a plethora of evidence that there are serious problems with bullying, harassment, discrimination and law breaking within HMRC judging by comment out there.

There have been a number of such problems under the 'leadership' of both Lin Homer and Jon Thompson. Even a comment from 2014, during the time Mr Thompson was CEO of MOD, detailing problems there.

What on earth is going on in HMRC? How are the public to trust this Department with their wide ranging (and some might say excessive) powers over taxpayers when they cannot treat their own staff with civility?

Someone needs to wake up and smell the coffee...and get the IPCC in there...we need to the scale of this abuse!

  3. ...as if that doesn't disgust people enough regarding HMRC's repugnant & violent disregard for basic decency, see this shocker about how they treated a disabled member of staff:- (civilserviceworld.com 22/02/17)

"I recently returned to work from 5+ months on the sick with Depression due to several instances of Bullying Harassment Intimidation & Disability discrimination. I have a congenital birth defect which I have only 1 finger on my left hand and no leg below my left knee. I am a career Civil Servant, 36 years, and joined in 1981 because even then the Civil Service was considered the most diverse employer in the UK. Yeah I may have suffered some prejudice in these years but it always made me stronger and more determined to succeed, which I believe I have. I have always felt supported however after accepting a promotion in 2015 to HO in HMRC I have endured 18 months of hell from being called an embarrassment by one manager, to agreed reasonable adjustments with OH not been adhered to or where treated as a tick box exercise by 2 other managers, to one of those same managers labelling me as disabled in a validation report, which was demeaning and not appropriate for the audience it went to and the same manager dismissed my DSE assessed bespoke furniture as unnecessary as showcase furniture was suitable for 95% of staff and trust me to be one of the 5%. I have been passed over when requesting additional duties to showcase my skills in order that I might apply for SO vacancies I knew I had the skills for and those same opportunities were afforded to my colleagues with less experience. What is more galling is I tried to seek advice and support from diversity and disability groups diversity champions no one could be bothered to contact me. Which led to the months on the sick with depression. During this phase I wrote to senior managers to highlight my experience and the reply I got was "sorry to hear you are unwell and I would like to wish you a merry xmas and a happy new year and look forward to you returning to work soon" Having self sourced support from doctors, counselling friends and colleagues I returned to work and I then took my story to the top of HMRC a director general no less, it is only now someone appears to be listening but I'm not a vindictive person I have learned from my counsellor to put this behind me, I don't wish to make a complaint or grievance, honestly I believe it would do no good, I only want an apology, which I'm still waiting for, and that someone listens to my story of what its like at grass roots level and take me up on the offer in sharing my experiences with others. When the incidents happened I was 52 years old worked 35 years in numerous civil service depts. without suffering the hurt or pain of discrimination but it took less than 6 months in the Compliance Office to break me. I hope this story can help someone come to terms with discrimination in what ever form and to seek help if they need it."

Jon Thompson and Lin Homer - shame on you!!!

    1. Considering how many HMRC managers are psychopaths it is strange that they have so little understanding or compassion towards those with other mental illness, or is that part of the disorder?

      Delete
    2. I think you may have answered your own question.... Physcopaths are unable to empathise!

      Delete
    3. Far too many physcos in management grades at HMRC...it seems if you want to get on there you don't have to a physco but it certainly helps.

    4. The rule of law does not apply to HMRC. If it suits their own agenda they are quire prepared to suppress law breaking. Makes you wonder how the public can trust them?

      Delete
  4. Complete and utter disdain for the rule of law, bereft of any form of responsibility and totally lacking in backbone, yes, HMRC "management".
They have constantly pushed the boundaries to such an extent they have been left far astern over the horizon.
Allowed to ride roughshod over staff and taxpayers alike, with all the "customer" orientation of a budget Irish airline!
Politicians, PCS and TUC should hang their heads in shame, and to learn that the MOD, amongst others is just as bad is no surprise.
Common denominators, both treat their staff like shit and do not care about the wastage of billions of taxpayer hard earned money, also they must share revolving door manufacturers.
No good looking to May (Mrs) for inspiration, lets hope UKIP get back on their feet.
What a freaking mess it all is.
    Rant over.

  5. This all reminds us of an HMRC bully by the name of Heather Connolly. She broke the Data Protection Act and CRCA 2005 and this law breaking was never independently investigated or scrutinised. Shame on you HMRC senior management for failing to ensure adequate levels of governance.

    1. Violations of DPA and CRCA are CRIMINAL offences, not 'civil wrongs' (like a parking ticket, for e.g.)

If a crime has been committed then surely it should have prosecuted and the victim offered support???

    2. HMRC tolerate staff lawbreaking if their face fits. Have I got this right ?

      Delete
  6. Any developments regarding the law breaking @ HMRC? Any management been investigated? Any prosecutions? Any successful employment tribunals? Or is it still being covered up???

    1. I bet it's still being covered up.
The Nellthorpe case, as reported in the media, demonstrates the standard of behaviour accepted in HMRC for those whose face fits.
      Totally appalling.
If people don't speak out, is it any wonder they get away with it?

    2. My guess is that they are all in on covering it up. The best thing for HMRC is to make it all go away. It's not in their interest to prosecute or pursue further. Just more work for PR Poli (there's more than one troll on here from the Corporate Comms I would wager).

It's far easier to just muzzle witnesses, pay them off, sack them, hope they quit. Wouldn't surprise me if they were all part of the funny handshake freemason club. That would ensure that investigations don't go anywhere and brushed under the carpet. He's also gone from Government department to Government department. See no evil, hear no evil. The Establishment closes ranks.

Sam Allerdyce said that HMRC is the most corrupt organisation in the UK. I'm not going to disagree.
