The Reason for The HMRC Shambles?

My thanks to a loyal reader for posting this comment, which may well be the main reason for the ongoing shambles in HMRC:

"And those 5500 from customer services left when they merged casework with call centres and trashed their terms and conditions in the last pay deal. These were people that knew how to work cases but we're shunted into the phones and paid just above min wage.

There are now some tasks where no one knows how to work them as the people that did them previously have gone. You won't be told this when you ring (when the phone system works) but it is utter chaos and the bottom grades have just had enough none of this is their fault but they take the brunt every single day."

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Yet the Smoke and Mirrors operation continues in full force, with fake outrage and hollow calls for cross party investigations. Look here and not there.. HMRC was hacked and slashed decades ago.

2023 is going to be an interesting year.

    1. Very sad at the demise of HMRC but you reap what you sew BOF is a disaster and the loss of experienced staff who actually knew what they were doing was a ludicrous idea. For me the drivers of BOF should carry the can and be sacked - The mess is down to them and the savage attacks by successive Tory Governments who should remember that their policies of slash and burn and knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing (experienced staff) is at the root of this.

  2. Snuck out just before recess: result of the effective destruction of any meaningful Customs enforcement and substituted by worthless remote risk assessments.

Which failed to spot obvious and gross abuse. When alerted the response was to deny and obfuscate.

  4. HMRC sounds an appalling place to work for min wage.

No wonder this country is rapidly going to the dogs.

The senior HMRC staff, like the rest of the useless senior civil service staff, are creaming off the public's money and offering absolutely nothing in return.

HMRC is one of the many UK institutions that need major overhauls. Sadly, that will only come with a political revolution: we need to get rid of the globalist, common purpose puppets and give the country new parties of the left and the right. Goodbye 'Conservatives', Liebour, and 'Liberal Democrats'.

Back to HMRC, start with a P45 for the useless Jim Harra.
