    1. Seriously, the PAC should employ Mr Mba to advise them on how to uncover the monumental corruption and incompetence prevalent in HMRC and Whitehall in general.

  2. Ken, Osita Mba returned to work in Solicitor's Office in November but was moved from his previous role in 100 Parliament Street to a new role in Bush House.

Also, he's Nigerian. As far as I know, he's never been to Kenya.

    1. That’s remarkable, given the mantra in HMRC that it’s “straight to jail” for anyone that dared disclose taxpayer confidential information outside the department. We all believed it when it was reported that he had been sacked and was awaiting prosecution! For Hartnett to leave in disgrace and Mba to return to work is a stunning achievement and good for morale. Maybe others will be encouraged to speak out.

  4. Assuming he is still with the HMRC what was the incentive to stay?

I am sure it must have involved a princely sum and some form of compromise agreementc ontract signed in blood on parchment.

I sincerely hope that this chap has not however sold his soul in a Faustian way.

    1. I very much doubt that a compromise agreement was signed. Remember senior management (basically Dave Hartnett and his acolytes) warned to sack and prosecute him but couldn’t seem to find a legal basis for it and simply let him on suspension for many months.
Besides, you sign a compromise agreement when both sides have parted ways. Why would senior managers in HMRC pay him and then allow him back with the potential to cause them more grief in the future? And why would he want to return to HMRC if he is money-driven?

  5. Bit more to this than is currently up for discussion.

Given all that he was subjected to by both HMRC and the NAO why would a peerson wish to remain in HMRC. He is apparently a Barrister by home qualification.

Why indeed would HMRC allow him back - would it be instead of a frightened poorly supported employee they were given advice not to play this one to the wire as is normal.

Perhaps he had the support of a fellow member or two from the legal profession scenting a high profile case.

Yes, I suspect HMRC know they are on a loser here, with someone able to amass more legal weight than they could, after all, the plaintiff being a qualified lawyer is a rarity for HMRC legal advisers to contend with!

    What a strange world?

  6. Perhaps he has gone back to work on a challenge such as developing a replacement for Lean/Pacesetter that actually works?
Should keep him outta sight for a decade or two. LOL!
