Best In Class

Best in Class
Congratulations to HMRC for winning "Best Public Sector Fleet (with more than 250 vehicles) 2009".

HMRC have reduced its fleet mileage by 12%, and saved 2,000 tonnes of CO2 (above and beyond its own targets).

I assume that this hasn't been achieved by managers ditching cars and flying instead?

It would be interesting to see if flying miles during the last year have increased/reduced or remained static.

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. I wouldn't believe a word they said.
Since a mangers team could include staff in Belfast, Edinburgh or somewhere in England these people are never out of airports and jumping in taxis.
HMRC are a fucking laugh spouting off all this positive info. When you asked for some clarification on the departments restructuring or simply the future, it was like talking to a pack of dummies.
Plus should the overhaul costs not be down anyway considering that thousands of disillusioned staff have fucked off out of the place over the last few years?
    A den of iniquity.

It's a tough at the top, being a high-flying manager in HMRC. While the management may have "saved" many tonnes of CO2, unfortunately it has been replaced by countless truckloads of bullshit!!!

  3. Talk of saving CO2 is a nonsense. Now that officers have to travel into the office first to pick up the pool car for their visits, it means that actual journey times and mileages and CO2 are greatly increased - but then again, the first leg of the journey doesn't count in the stats and HMRC and Gordon Brown's crazy world of Off Balance Sheet Financing.

  4. no cars... let the planes, trains, buses and taxis take the strain.

  5. Let them use more CO2. The more the managers are out of the office the better. The staff can spend more time doing their jobs rather than waiting for managers to pull them up on everything.

  6. Actually, why not get just rid of the managers altogether? They don't serve any useful purpose, they spend their time blocking, bullying and frustrating the staff who simply want to do a good job, plus they know fark all about anything that's actually important (eg assessing and collecting taxes). They are just a mean bunch of self-serving, self-important, self-promoting, jumped-up little Hitlers that pocket all the performance bonuses earned by the very staff they bully into submission!!!

  7. It puzzles me, if these people don't know anything about tax, what do they actually do? Why are they there? Why do you put up with them? Is it not high time you lot organised a mutiny and throw these timewasters overboard?

Because we're not at sea. And throwing people out of windows is frowned upon by the police, the courts and other prospective employers.

This could probably happen except that the unions who operate in a lot of these areas represent the managers as well as the people below them. Until this conflict of interests is removed the situation will not change.
