I am gemused to see that Danny "Beaker" Alexander (Chief Secretary to the Treasury) has come up with a terrific "wheeze", and announced the recruitment of 2,000 new tax inspectors.
Ermmm..now forgive me if I am a little confused, but are HMRC not in the process of downsizing and laying off tax inspectors?
How much will this cost, and where in the HMRC budget is this coming from?
Has no one told Beaker about the downsizing of HMRC, or does this mean that the policy has been reversed?
Answers on a postcard to "Beaker C/O HMT".
FYI, I tweeted Beaker asking where the money is coming from to pay for it..if he answers I will update you.

Dear Beaker @ HMT
ReplyDeleteI almost fell off the settee when you came out with this announcement it did catch me unawares.
Obviously this has been discussed with the "Artful Dodger" and the rest of the Bullingdon Club?
What we do not wish to see is any manipulation or smoke and mirrors and that these 2000 extra recruited staff are just that and not from elsewhere in that erstwhile organisation.
You and the rest of the "cutomers" should not worry about the cost though as the bottom line will be an increase in money in the bank, sorry, I meant Treasury coffers!!!
Of course more in this case does mean more i.e. more staff = more tax, bit of a no-brainer eh Beaker?
There is a current recruitment exercise for 1100 O/HO grades in Enforcement & Compliance.
ReplyDeletePriority for these jobs goes as follows
1) Those in the redeployment pool
2) Those on level transfer and
3) The rest to those who want to get promoted.
The normal tax inspector grade is a Band T or SO, so those who are successful will be cheaper to employ and I think its a 2 year training course, so they wont useful till then !.
So really its just a case of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic because its a case of moving staff round NOT recruiting 2000 more staff.
Must get the wax cleared out of my ears, I am sure Beaker said recruiting 2000 EXTRA inspectors or something very similar, this couldn't be a rearranging of the deckchairs surely even this lot don't believe the public will fall for that?
ReplyDeleteBTW, M.O.S. p.79 Financial...
"Tax bosses delighted with deal over moarale poll".
Wonder what the brass have "promised" the ARC membership to drop the poll boycott?
One week to go, wonder how many sales pitches occur in that tiescale, don't forget, say it once, say it twice, say it three times - it must be true.
The format and questions (and answer options) will be examined as never before, just in case...
In the words of Jim Royal "My arse",all that's happening is transfers to enforcement and compliance. This will be mainly from processing, and the are going to recruit fixed term appointments to plug the gap until the NPS system is running without the glitches.then dump them
ReplyDeleteSo if you think it's a long time to get a reply from HMRC now just wait until the new bods start(well they will need some training won't they)
