My thanks to a loyal reader who pointed me to a Private Eye article that delved into Edward Troup's (Executive Chairman of HMRC) past, and reminded us all that he is very much anti taxation.

As per The Eye:

"Troup became a vocal and effective opponent of proposals to clamp down on tax avoidance, in keeping with his infamous view in a 1999 Financial Times comment piece that tax is “legalised extortion” and that seeking tax avoidance advice is “not immoral”."

The article also notes that he is a fan of offshoring.
