HMRC Phone Lines and Webchat Crash

My thanks to a loyal reader, who posted a link to a report that HMRC's phone lines and its webchat facility crashed yesterday.

HMRC don't seem to know why this happened.

Please let me know if the problems persist.

  1. That would've been another day of tea, cake and online shopping for HMRC staff then...

  2. No....you would be wrong there....this is where i defend the staff, being one myself.
Place the blame where it belongs....senior management and their cheap I.T systems which we,the staff, have complained about ad nauseum.
The staff at the coal face are doing their best on a sinking ship...it is not fair to blame them.

  3. Anonymous @ 11:52. 'ANOTHER day of tea, cake and online shopping'. I have no idea where you got the information that staff on phones could ever do any of those things except on their lunch breaks, but it couldn't be more wrong: Even when computers and everything is off, we are not even allowed to give our desk drawers a long over due tidy out. The managers forbid it, whilst running around like headless chickens trying to find some unnecessary training or creep checking of work to occupy our time.

    2. 11.52 is playing silly buggers. Who are you, 11.52? Possibly management? People are paid to get results and depend upon IT. Fact is that this computer breakdown loses staff targets and that causes big problems for them as they then get bullied. So who are you, 11.52?

  6. In the majority of areas now, you have to account for what you were doing in time windows on a stats sheet. In some areas these time windows are hourly. You cannot provide a free format answer and have to choose from a list of options of what you did. The options list is cunningly put together whereby they force a 'result' for the period. This results in pressurised workers rushing, cutting corners, and a service more concerned with producing figures to falsely brag about rather than an honest service for the customer. The only ones eating cake are the inept, self-interested, fawning creatures who are spreading outwards and upwards within the management ranks of HMRC like a horrible disease.

    1. Agreed....or management try to hide the fact that I.T is shite by asking staff to "time out" of their stat sheets...so masking the figures...pathetic bastards

    2. HMRC really is a truly awful place to work. I know, as I had the misfortune to serve over three decades. Staff are set up to fail, while it is the senior management who collect the gongs.

Since the inception of HMRC in 2005 the place went downhill rapidly. Hard work, honesty & integrity count for nothing when up against an unscrupulous senior management culture. I was bullied, harassed, threatened (even had a thug turn up at my home to intimidate me) and subjected to unimaginable suffering. I feel for those unlucky enough to have to work there. The CEO was aware of my case but chose to totally dismiss it relying on an unacceptable phoney investigation and a contradictory false narrative. He even lied to an MP in a letter (Civil Service Code anyone??).

HMRC's behaviour amounted to lawbreaking of a criminal & civil nature. The truth will out for the suffering inflicted on me and my loved ones, and when it does there will be a number of red faces in HMRC management...
