HMRC Mistakenly Issue High Court Winding Up Petition Against Doncaster Rovers

The insolvency hearing had been listed for 11am yesterday at the High Court in London and related to a HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) tax bill, which had already been paid.

A HMRC error saw the payment allocated to the wrong month, subsequently making it appear overdue.

That triggered action against the club, including an application to close the company down.

HMRC has since been in touch with Doncaster Rovers to acknowledge their mistake.

The club now considers the matter to be closed.

A spokesperson for HMRC said they cannot comment on individual cases ‘due to strict confidentiality rules’.

In a statement, HMRC told The Free Press:

“We take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts and only file winding-up petitions once we’ve exhausted all other options, in order to protect taxpayers’ money.”

Tax does have to be taxing.

  2. Off-topic, I would like to wish Ken and his loyal readers a very happy Christmas.

Please keep up the good work in 2023, we need to expose HMRC as the rotten, incompetent and toxic organisation that it is.

Will 2023 finally see reform of this department, along with investigations and prosecutions into misconduct that has occurred and been covered up over the last decade?
