There Is Nothing Like a Dame

I see that the Sun reports that those running HMRC do not believe in stinting themselves, even if the country has a £4.8 Trillion debt.

Dame Lesley Strathie (CEO of HMRC) apparently travelled by rail to Darlington (first class) in April, at a cost to the taxpayer of £371.67. On top of this was a taxi fare of £82.25.

Why was she going there in the first place?

Oh, to attend an event "celebrating success"!

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. I don't know what class she travelled on the train, but Dame Lesley was collected at Darlington Station by a member of staff both to & from Middlesbrough, for the 'Celebrating Success' event.

So either The Sun info is wrong, or Dame Leslie claimed for a taxi she did not take.

  2. Either way she is a strange guest to have at an event celebrating success. Unless it was celebrating people getting large salaries for being a fuck up.

  3. Given that there is a train from Darlington to Middlesborough why the need for the extra journeys to and from Darlington. Both of which will have been against the T and S guidance
