HMRC's Croydon Superhub

At the HMRC Stakeholder Conference Jon Thompson released details about the first new regional tax hub at Ruskin Square in Croydon.

It will, apparently, "become a centre of excellence for compliance that will cover London and the south east".

The hub will become one of Croydon’s largest employers with around 2,500 full time equivalent staff, and will open in 2017.

Tax does have to be taxing.

Insurance to protect you against the cost of enquiry or dispute with HMRC is available from several sources including Solar Tax Investigation Insurance.

However, neither Ken Frost nor HMRCISSHITE either endorses or recommends their services.

What is Solar Tax Investigation Insurance?

  2. Don't those in the HMRC ivory towers treat the staff well eh? 'Thank you' for your service and good bye. Let's hope any new staff tempted to join the Croydon hub are aware of the bullying culture and senior management's contempt for decent people.

  3. A centre of 'excellence' - if the senior management have anything to do with it I very much doubt it.

  4. Edward Troup visited our office and when asked about the piss-poor staff engagement levels replied that once staff move to the Regional Centres, ExCom expect to see Engagement levels rise. Was questioned why he believes that, but no response forthcoming.

    1. How rude of Troup to not answer your further question - an excellent example of his 0% commitment to staff engagement it would seem. An interesting book is out by Dame Margaret Hodge, she basically writes about hmrc's dishonesty, cover-ups and bullying - on the basis of her very credible and trustworthy account of senior management, can we trust these people to honestly deal with our tax affairs? Dame Margaret also writes of her regret that she could not protect an HMRC employee from HMRC - if it needs an MP to protect staff from management, whatever kind of organisation is HMRC??? Very, very disturbing. Time for the IPCC to take a good look at the place???

  7. On the one hand, Croydon (the city) is going through one heck of a revamp and could end up being an exciting place to work. On the other hand, this new 'super' building won't even have a gym, from what I understand. And in other vaguely connected news, the Civil Service has just appointed a Health and Wellbeing champion. So they tell us it's important to be fit and healthy, and to reduce time off sick, then force us all into one building with much longer commutes (and costs and stress!) and don't provide any facility to exercise.

    1. A gym?? You'll be lucky if it's got any bleedin' windows.

    2. Could end being an exciting place to work? A gym And does anyone think HMRC cares about staff health & wellbeing. You'd be very lucky if you get proper desk space, a comfortable chair, natural daylight, training to do your job and an environment free from bullying. Until you see the place, I wouldn't trust a word they say.
