Satan Appeared on HMRC Computer

A tax fraud investigator told a tribunal he became a victim of religious discrimination after telling HMRC bosses that Satan had appeared on his computer and it needed to be doused with holy water.

Devout Christian Paul O'Connor lost his job in Risk and Intelligence Services, after telling managers he had started seeing demons and urging one to travel to Bosnia and get baptised as a cure for her chronic pain.

Mr O'Connor ended up being signed off work and when managers deemed he would not be fit to return 'within a reasonable length of time', the HMRC paid him 12 weeks notice and compensation of more than £25,000.

However, he claimed they had discriminated against him due to his religious beliefs and took the HMRC to an employment tribunal.

A judge dismissed all his claims, ruling that HMRC managers had not discriminated against Mr O'Connor and did everything they could to support him.

Tax does have to be taxing.
