#LycaGate - HMRC Denies Then Undenies Letter

HMRC denied the #LycaGate letter:
No HMRC official would ever write such a letter. This is the United Kingdom for God’s sake, not some third world banana republic where the organs of state are in hock to some sort of kleptocracy.”
HMRC then undenied it...

However, BuzzFeed said that another spokesman later called the situation “regrettable” after verifying content of an email seen by the news outlet.

Oops!

Does this mean that the UK is a banana republic?

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. Never forget this is an organisation lacking in integrity - if they are comfortable lying in court documents in order to screw over employees they've already harmed, then they will do anything.

They are a bunch of lairs, cheats and cowards smugly hiding behind the pretence they are 'decent civil servants, just doing their jobs'. They have little or no awareness of how dim their cover ups look out in the real world.

It's been said before and no doubt will be said again:

    1) Those in HMRC who have broken the law need to be investigated and prosecuted. (That means their HR unprofessionals must not suppress evidence of criminal law breaking under any circumstance in the future. Unsurprisingly, this has happened when a low-ranking manager who committed the crime was needed by HR to help cover up other aspects).

    2) HMRC and the civil service as a whole needs root and branch reform. This should include taking aware titles such as 'Sir' or 'Dame' from those whose past failings in the service continue to emerge.

  2. "Does this mean that the UK is a banana republic?"

No, we're a feudal kingdom which has to import its bananas.
